It has all the answers to the questions that you may have about the business! It's fun, it's informative and well written! Judy knows what it takes to succeed in this business! |
A "MUST READ" FOR ANY PARENT WITH A CHILD IN SHOWBIZ!!! A MUST HAVE FOR PARENTS IN SHOWBIZ GREATEST BOOK FOR PARENTS OF KIDS ENTERING SHOW BUSINESS THE SHOWBIZ MOM'S BIBLE & Great INSURANCE ON THE FREEWAY! By Valarie Enters "Gingerbread Artist/National P... (Sanford, Florida) EXCELLENT INFORMATION!!!!!!!!!!! THIS BOOK WAS VERY HELPFUL TO ME!
After being involved with my daughter in this business for 8 years & many costly mistakes later, this book has been an "Absolute Treasure" among all the how-to-books we've invested in. It truly walks you through every step of the way from beginning to end & the accuracy is absolutely amazing! Even after doing this for as long as we have, it is amazing how much more we have learned "To Do" or "Not To Do" ...just wish I had known about her book a little sooner...might have saved a few dollars & some wasted energy & valuable time! What I think is especially unique is the blank side of each page for note taking...& at the end of the book she even includes copies of actual contracts! Judy leaves no stone unturned in her book...answers all your questions & some you didn't know you had! On top of all the wealth of information she gives you, she also makes it fun to read...one of those "Hard To Put Down" kind of books! "It's a Freeway Out There!" has been such a Godsend...worth every penny & then some without a doubt!! My advice to beginners..... invest in this one first & save yourself a lot of grief, time, confusion & most of all "Your $$$$" ......................BREAK-A-LEG!!!! Warm regards, Silvia & Rheagan Wallace
It's a Freeway is an excellent resource for parents seeking to start their children in show biz. Since its spiral bound, the book is updated FREQUENTLY. It contains great information that even veteran parents will benefit from by referencing it!
When I was starting out with my own kids in show biz I called an agency to find out about representation -- and the recorded message for parents was "don't even think about calling back UNTIL you have read Its a Freeway!"
My favorite part of the book is the agent's pet-peeves. It gives parents a look at the industry from the agent's eyes... and gives them an idea of how they, as parents, can come across to their agents! By A Customer (Southern California, of course!)
By W. Randolph Clark (Former Hollywood Agent, Now teaching acting in Houston, Texas at "CATS")
As an agent who has represented youngsters for film, television, and commercials et cetera in Hollywood for over 15 years, I am very grateful to Judy Belshe for writing this book. I, and many other agents here in Hollywood, have been recommending this book to the parents of clients and prospective clients ever since it first came out several years ago. Subsequent editions have always included new information, all neatly compiled in one very readable volume. For years, all agents were pleading for a book like this because we just don't have the time to educate our client's parents about how everything in the business works. Dispensing this information for one set of parents would take hours, so you can imagine how much time it would take for dozens of clients. Our real work -- Agenting-- would never get done if we had to be a school for parents too. This book has literally saved me thousands of hours of teaching parents what they NEED to know in order to navigate with their child in the sometimes treacherous waters of Hollywood. If parents had to gather all the information in this book themselves, it would take them months, if not years.
I really appreciate that this book actually functions as a reference work. Because practically everything you need is in this book, you won't have to write everything down and try to organize it yourself. And you don't even have to try to remember how everything in the child acting business works. Just look it up when you need it.
The book is designed to be used as a reference guide. Those who are looking for lots of unsavory anecdotes and scary stories about kids working in Hollywood will have to look elsewhere. This is a very positive guide designed to give parents the confidence they need to help their child succeed. You can't bluff it in Hollywood, but with Judy's book you will have at your fingertips everything that more 'seasoned' parents have learned along the way---often the hard way. If you are confident, your child will be confident too. The book really serves as a workbook, and you won't feel bad at all about marking it up with your own special notes and highlighting pen.
And so parents, if you have a talented girl or boy that you would like to try to get into the entertainment business, then you'll do yourself a big favor by reading "It's A Freeway Out There" by Judy Belshe. Knowledge is Power.
This review could also be labeled: Show Biz for Dummies. Not only does Judy Belshe tell you everything you need to know. She writes in such an endearing manner, you feel like she's a close friend of family member telling you great and priceless advice. Judy is a Casting Director, so she has an in on the Biz. What I found most poignant was the fact that Judy herself dressed up and went in for an audition! She wanted to understand what her clients themselves went through (this is when she was an agent). She has driven the freeway and will show you the way, so you can avoid expensive fender benders! I'm thankful that we found her book now. We just signed with an agent and are thinking of you Judy as we head up the onramp! By A Customer
EVERYTHING THAT YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT SHOW BIZ!
Judy Belshe has taken years of knowledge and experience and put it down on paper so that all parents and kids can have the VITAL SURVIVAL-information at their finger-tips. It is a must for all families who are in show biz -- and it is ESSENTIAL for families who are deciding if show biz is something that they want to pursue. From Stage Mom to Manager to Agent to Acting Teacher to Actress and now Author -- Judy has seen every side of Hollywood and shares it with her readers.
Judy Belshe's book is also agent-recommened. When my sister was seeking representation for her children in Las Vegas a few of the agencies have a recording on their kids' line not to call back until you have read this book!
My favorite section of the book is "Agents Pet-Peeves" and I think that some of the agents must have been talking about me when they listed the things that parents do to grate on the nerves of agents.....Of course, that would be me before I read Judy's Book!! By A Customer
I found this book to be chalk full of information. Very easy to read. Room for notes. I will be recommending this book to everyone! We just recently started in the business so we are far from professionals. This writer not only gives you information on what Hollywood wants she also gives you many time saving tips.
So, unless you know everything there is to know about the business this book is for you! By Yvette Chasse' (Lakewood, CA)
SAVED ME SO MUCH MONEY!
I bought this book this year when I started out in the business with my children. I knew nothing! There were so many people telling me my children should be in commercials and then they'd put their hand out for money! This book was straight forward, honest and saved me from going the wrong direction and spending a ton of money. It also showed me where the pitfalls were. It's also won an Irwin Publicist Award and that says a lot.
There are many books about the business and this one was great ones for me as a beginner. There were also commercials and scripts in there to work with my children! One of the things that I really liked about it was it's not about telling me how THEY "the Star" got into the business, Judy made it personal to me as a parent starting out. That made this information very easy for me to apply to my life. I'm very thankful that I found it. After I read it, I had a question and her phone number was there in the book! I called her. She talked to me and answered my question! I've never known an author to do that! I'm so happy I found this book. By Marie Powerfield (Burbank, California)

Some people may say it is not a masterpiece. Who cares. It give inside information you will not get from any other book. If a new actor or seasoned actor reads the book, they will come away far more knowledable about what to do and what NOT to do. By Tena Houser (Agent, Las Vegas)
